BALANCE IN MOTION BODYWORK
Santa Barbara Massage & Pain Therapy
Erick Hudson
Holistic Health Practitioner (HHP)
I have been a sports enthusiast my whole life, and I have sustained many injuries while practicing rock climbing and martial arts, and while lifting weights as a competitive power lifter. In 2004, I sustained a particularly bad back injury and was treated with traditional orthopedic therapy methods without success. I was in constant, crippling pain and contacted John Harris, national sport massage pioneer and Olympics adviser, for help. John treated me with Barefoot Massage, which accomplished in two sessions what several doctors had been unable to do in months. I was free of pain, and I realized that I wanted to learn more and pass this experience on in my practice and through teaching.
I had become frustrated in my profession of Skilled Nursing and Psychiatric Care, because the therapy I was providing seemed to be creating an unending cycle of treatments, rather than address the core issue.
With my newly acquired insight into Barefoot Massage, I embarked on a journey that eventually led me to Asian Bodywork and my certifications as a Holistic Health Practitioner from the Santa Barbara Body Therapy Institute. I opened Balance in Motion in Santa Barbara in 2008, where it has quickly become a successful therapeutic treatment option for athletes and patients from all over California.

My massage and bodywork techniques range from Asian therapies such as Tui Na, Thai Massage and Barefoot, to Western modalities such as Myofascial Release and Trigger Point Massage.
My specialty, however, is what I consider the modality of the future: Proprioceptive – Deep Tendon Reflex (P-DTR) Therapy. This technique is revolutionizing bodywork, and I am excited to be able to offer it to you as one of the first practitioners in Southern California.
My success in the bodywork field has allowed me to provide my clients with a healthy and effective treatment that saves them from having to continuously medicate with harmful substances or subject themselves to costly and unnecessary surgeries.
I have made it my mission to teach the body to heal itself, and I am offering guidance and compassion to those who suffer from acute or chronic pain or stress related impairments.
The gratitude of many clients who have finally begun to heal in the shortest time after years of unnecessary pain has made my work more satisfying than I could have ever hoped for.
